A Day In The Life

Current Role: Marketing Coordinator, Symphony
My role is Marketing Coordinator, based in London, for a company called Symphony, a secure cloud-based messaging and collaboration platform, with a focus on the financial services industry. Customers and investors include big global names such as, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
I moved from my hometown Belfast to London just before lockdown began and have been working from home for two months now.
My Alarm Goes off…at 7am to go for a jog or walk, since the weather has been pretty fantastic in London recently. However, I’m not a great morning person, so I won’t get up to exercise every morning, some days I’ll use my lunch break instead. If I wasn’t working from home my schedule would look a little different.
I’m Responsible For… working closely with a team of marketers and designers to help drive our brand strategy as well as supporting campaign activities and events, with most recently holding our first digital “Innovate” event, due to the current circumstances of Covid-19.
I Got The Job…via LinkedIn. An internal recruiter from Symphony reached out and from there I had multiple phone and video interviews with various members of the Marketing team. I was totally over the moon when I got the call to say that I got the job – I knew this was going to be the right move for me!
My Typical Day…varies from one day to the next, which I enjoy because it keeps things interesting and I’m continuously learning something new. However, almost everyday when I first wake up, I log onto the Symphony Mobile App on my phone to make sure there aren’t urgent actions that came through during the night, before my day officially begins. I usually plan out my day the evening before, so I know what meetings I’m attending and what tasks I need to prioritize.
The Culture Of My Workplace…within the short time I have worked within the company, I know we’re big on supporting each other day to day both personally and professionally. We are also a flexible workspace, with offices in Americas/EMEA/APAC regions, therefore the Symphony platform enables us to work from home anywhere in the world.
My Most Memorable Work Moment…seeing all of the Marketing team’s faces on Symphony meeting’s during a virtual “Happy Hour” at the end of my first full week. At first, I found this quite strange, but as weeks go on it’s definitely the “new norm” and it’s a great way to interact with the team on a more personal level.
My Role Models are…my parents among many others.
The Most Challenging Part of My Job…is working from home in a studio apartment in the city with my fiancé – especially when we have conflicting conference calls…
The Best Part of My Job…connecting with others, learning from different people in the company and achieving positive results.
After Work… I would love to say I go for a nice meal after work or meet up with friends in a new cocktail bar etc but in the current situation my evenings consist of either going for a walk, going to the supermarket, watching “Shark Tank” on Netflix or reading Harry Potter (yes – geek alert).
Plan B: If I wasn’t doing this, I would…probably be working within the PR agency space, which is where I started out in my career…or else making a plan to open my own Cafe, who knows!
