Claudette Oledimmah

Claudette Oledimmah

Alum Of The Month

Program: New York

Intake: March 2011

Current Role: Assistant to CEO – Non Profit

What and where did you study before your Mountbatten internship?
I studied American Studies at Kings College London, then I went to drama school for a year in London, followed by a 3-month stint studying drama in Los Angeles, before I headed back to London work in banking.

What made you apply for the Mountbatten program?
My older sister had done the program about five years prior to me doing it. I was working in banking in London at the time feeling incredibly unfulfilled with my life and career, so I decided to apply for the program, not really believing I would get accepted. Everything happened really fast from application submission, to getting my visa at the American Embassy.  It felt like it happened in a matter of weeks!

Describe your sponsor company and your role within it.
I worked at Prospect Capital, a Private Equity Company. I was the office manager.

What was the highlight/most memorable moment of your working experience during this year?
The company did a yearly ski trip over President’s Day weekend to Killington, VA, in which family (spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, friend, kids, maybe even parents) were invited to come. I didn’t ski but the other interns and I had a lot of fun tubing and touring the town.  We did sunset cruises during the summer evenings, and I also saw Tom Petty perform at The Beacon Theatre with the firm.

What was the social highlight/most memorable moment during this year?
A random Thanksgiving in Rhode Island.  My friend and I made plans 48 hours prior to us leaving; and I don’t believe we were expecting much from that trip, but it was a charming place.

Please share a little wisdom/philosophy that you acquired during your internship
Living and working in NYC is an incredible opportunity and it’s important to get out of the bubble and explore the things that YOU want to do; which may not be the thing that the majority wants to do, and that’s ok. Never let fear of failure stop you from trying something new.

What happened after completing the year – what did you do next?
I continued working in private equity back in London, and then was lucky enough to come back to New York, before moving to San Francisco for a new opportunity at a Hedge Fund. I was there for about two and a half years and what followed was me moving to Santa Barbara and having my son and then working with an UHNW (Ultra High New Worth) family in the Los Angeles area who had ties to the entertainment world and the Obama Administration, followed by an incredible opportunity to work with Alexis Ohanian (Reddit) at his VC fund Seven Seven Six.

Where are you now in your working life and what do you do?
I still reside in the Los Angeles area and currently work at a non-profit. I am also training to become an Intuitive Psychology Coach and will be setting up my own life coaching business. Self-development is something I have been doing for almost 15 years, it is a passion of mine. Intuitive Psychology is your innate ability to trust, know and heal which is underpinned by the theory, research and science of psychology. The work that I do garners rapid results and creates lasting neural pathways to make permanent mindset changes.

Do you have any future plans that you would like to realize & what are they (career & social)?
I want to build out my coaching business and work with individual clients and corporations worldwide. My hope is to launch some retreats and workshops alongside my client work this year. I would also love to travel some more and in the future get to spend extended periods of time back home in London and Europe.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I love writing and am working on writing and developing a screenplay.

Is there any other information that you would like to be included?
I would like to offer Mountbatten Alumni a discount* after I officially open my books in March. My services are in self-development, relationships, goal-setting, empowerment, authenticity and alignment. My work tends to (not always) look at our past and delve into ideas and limiting beliefs that may be holding us back from achieving certain goals and/or aspirations. I work collaboratively with clients to identify what the issues are, unpacking the issue(s) and alchemizing it so that one can be aligned in certain aspects of their lives. I offer a free discovery call where people can ask questions and you can find out more about the work that I offer.

*60% discount off my standard six sessions which is $1,440.
