Charlotte Murray

What and where did you study before your Mountbatten internship? I completed an undergraduate degree in Music followed by a Postgraduate degree in Marketing, both at Ulster University in Northern Ireland.
What made you apply for the Mountbatten program? Living and working in New York was always a dream of mine, and the program provided the perfect opportunity to make it a reality.
Describe your sponsor company and your role within it. I was placed with Moody’s as an Events & Outreach Associate, where I had the opportunity to work on a variety of event formats and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders. Throughout my time in New York, I took full ownership of several projects, allowing me to develop my skills. I thrived in the fast-paced environment.
What was the highlight/most memorable moment of your working experience during this year? Over the course of the year, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of events across New York. In the autumn, I also travelled to Chicago, Boston, and Minneapolis, where I managed events in those cities as well.
What was the social highlight/most memorable moment during this year? There are many memorable moments I could mention, but, most of all, I enjoyed living like a New Yorker.
Please share a little wisdom/philosophy that you acquired during your internship. If you don’t try, you’ll never know.
Upon reflection, what do you consider has been the biggest impact of your Mountbatten year? The most impactful aspect of completing the program was undoubtedly the incredible people I met, including my now partner. From colleagues and friends to my current team (many of whom were also part of the Mountbatten program in different intakes).
What happened after completing the year – what did you do next? I relocated to London, and took on a role as Events & Outreach Manager at Moody’s in their London office.
Where are you now in your working life and what do you do? I manage a global portfolio of events focusing on AI, Digital Finance and Cyber. I travel a lot for my events and will be travelling back to New York in May to manage another event.
Do you have any future plans that you would like to realise & what are they (career & social)? This year, I’ll be organising events in cities like Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore. In my free time, I’ll be training for my first Hyrox.
What would people be surprised to learn about you? Despite how often I travel for work I am terrified of flying.
