Alum of the Month
August 2007 Intake
What and where did you study before your Mountbatten internship?
What made you apply for the Mountbatten programme?
A desire to work in international business and expand my perspective on the world.
Describe your sponsor company and your role within it.
I worked at Hogan-Lovells (at the time just Lovells) in their legal training department and helped run their continued legal training.
What was the highlight/most memorable moment of your working experience during this year?
There was no single highlight, but working with a stellar team and a highly competent boss was really valuable.
What was the social highlight/most memorable moment during this year?
Travelling through Europe, most notably, running with the bulls in Spain.
Please share a little wisdom/philosophy that you acquired during your internship.
The Brits and Americans aren't really all that different. However, the subtleties are really enjoyable and I've found that it's important to appreciate them, understand them, and look for ways to weave them into your day-to-day thinking.
If you could change anything about your internship, what would it be?
I'd like to have seen a stronger sense of community before, during and after the program. It's nice to see that coming together now.
What happened after completing the year - what did you do next?
I returned to the States and accepted a role to work on the Obama for America campaign in Ohio.
Where are you now in your working life and what do you do?
I'm currently running business development for an innovative ridesharing startup called Bandwagon (bandwagon.io) in New York City.
Do you have any future plans that you would like to realise & what are they (career & social)?
I'd like to be involved in successfully growing a business from the ground up (hopefully Bandwagon) and use that experience to help educate and incubate other young companies working at the intersection of business and the environment.
Is there any other information that you would like to be included?
I'm really proud of what we're doing at Bandwagon --- we make it really easy and fun for people to share rides and split the fare — reducing, cost, congestion & emissions in the process. Our technology triangulates rides to save you time and money and is being used at airports and large venues there in NYC and in Montreal. If you know of anywhere with long cab lines, or know of anyone working in sports, please feel free to point them our way!
