Mountbatten Institute - New York DB Programme
AN INTERN IN PROFILE
Mountbatten Interns in New York are young men and women with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and some work experience, who believe in life's possibilities and who are not afraid to take risks.
You don't have to be a native English-speaker, but your written and spoken English must be first rate. You must be in good health. You stand a better chance of being placed if you can type accurately in English at 50+ words per minute; if in doubt you can test yourself by taking the test on www.typingspeed.com, and are familiar with the word processors, spreadsheets, and other computer packages popularly used in business.
Interns on the Deutsche Bank Junior Leadership Programme are ambassadors of India and so we are seeking young professionals with a high degree of maturity who present themselves well. Applicants should be self-starters / self-completers, capable of hard work, and who are prepared to make and honor a year-long commitment. Interns should be quite prepared to adapt to the American way of doing things - you should be flexible and prepared to deal with change should the Programme necessitate it.
Internships reflect all the roller coaster ups and downs of living and working abroad and adjusting to an international and competitive workplace. You will learn what working in a corporate environment is like, and how to deal with bosses, peers, periods of stress and periods of quiet - aspects of which will help you envision your future in the workplace - and all of which takes place in a foreign cultural setting.
Your year will go by very quickly. Most of our interns come to describe their Mountbatten year in vivid and colorful terms ranging from "tough", through "new people in new places, compromises, negotiations; .... the learning curve has been steep, almost vertical at points", to "there's no one I wouldn't recommend it to, but it's up to you to make it good, which can be work; .... a very memorable and unforgettable year; .... the greatest year of my life".
The opportunity to undertake a Mountbatten year in the spirited and energetic environment of New York is a unique and valuable one, the benefits of which may not be fully appreciated or assimilated until you return home.
