St Mary's University College has a long and distinguished history as a Catholic college for the education of teachers. Founded in 1850 by the Catholic Poor Schools Committee to meet the need for teachers to provide an education for the growing numbers of poor Catholic children.

The mission statement of St Mary's states ‘the transformative nature of our work contributes to the creation of new knowledge and inspires our outreach activities in support of social cohesion and economic development’. St Mary's provides high-quality secular academic and professional higher education with a collegial ethos inspired and sustained by Christian values welcoming students from all faiths and none.

In September 2006, St Mary's was granted the power to award its own taught degrees by the Privy Council.

St Mary's University College offers a wide range of foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses. It constantly strives to maintain and expand it portfolio of exciting, relevant courses to equip students for their future careers.

With a student population nearing 4,000 and an expanding range of courses St Mary's has established a number of international links and associations and now delivers its qualifications on three continents. Both the Postgraduate Certificate and the MBA in International Business Practice are delivered and awarded by the University College School of Management and Social Sciences.

Just 30 minutes by train from London – Waterloo, St Mary's has a beautiful 35 acre campus in Strawberry Hill within the south west London borough of Richmond upon Thames and home to Horace Walpole’s Gothic Villa now a national heritage site.
