LIVING IN NEW YORK

Accommodation is provided free of charge.  Interns share furnished flats in modern high-rise apartment buildings maintained by the Mountbatten Internship Programme at Newport, NJ, just across the Hudson River from the Financial District in downtown Manhattan and about five minutes walk from the nearest PATH (underground train) station.  Journey time to 33rd Street (mid-town Manhattan) is about 20 minutes.

The apartments are self-contained, including cooking facilities, two bathrooms, a spacious lounge, and ample storage space.  Each has three bedrooms accommodating 5 - 6 interns per apartment.

Additional services and facilities include a 24-hour doorman, security, a laundry room, intercom, and concierge.  Good accommodation in and around New York is very expensive and this provision represents a substantial saving to interns.

Living in Newport

The Programme is obliged to provide accommodation, for which it contracts, and pays, in advance.  Interns are expected to live in our apartments and not make private accommodation arrangements.

More information on Newport and its facilities can be found at www.newportnj.com

INSURANCE
Comprehensive medical insurance is provided by us, so you will be covered from the moment you arrive in the United States.  You will be covered for most requirements other than dental, optical, pre-existing conditions, and high-risk sports (skiing, or club soccer, for example).  There is a USD $20 fee ("co-payment") for each claim.  Personal possessions and personal liability are not covered.  Extended coverage for the 13th month (e.g. for travelling) can be arranged at the intern's expense through the Programme.
