Mountbatten Institute - London UBS Programme
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The Value of Your Scholarship
UBS and the Mountbatten Institute will pay the following expenses on your behalf:
- Return air fare from a major international airport in India that flies directly to London – Mumbai and New Delhi. You will purchase your own ticket and will be reimbursed by UBS within one month of your arrival in London. If you do not complete your internship year then you will have to pay back the cost of your air ticket.
- Participation fee of UK £1,425 will be paid on your behalf to Mounbatten by UBS. This covers the cost of the Cambridge University academic courses and the Certificate in International Business Practice which is a requirement of the programme.
- We will pay for the fees involved in the issue of your UK Work Permit.
- You will receive free accommodation in furnished shared apartments.
- You will also receive a living allowance of UK £615 (tax free) per month to cover your living and local transportation expenses.
What You Must Pay
You will be responsible for the following expenses and costs:
- Application fee of USD $50 which must accompany your application to the Mountbatten Office in Bangkok. The application fee will be refunded if you are not selected for interview. This fee must be paid by cashier's cheque or bank draft in US Dollars made payable to 'Mountbatten Institute'.
- Initial deposit of UK £475 which is due following your interview and which must be paid before we present your papers to UBS for final acceptance. If, for whatever reason, UBS is unable to accept you, then the initial deposit will be refunded to you. This fee must be paid by bank draft in UK Pound Sterling made payable to 'Mountbatten Internship Programme'.
- You are responsible for your UK visa application in India. This involves a number of fees payable to the Consulate/High Commission and comes to about UK £300. You will only have to get your visa if you have been accepted by UBS to join the scholarship programme. This fee is different from the application fee for the Work Permit, which is paid for in the UK by Mountbatten.
- You will have to survive for the first month before you get paid, so you will need to have between UK£600 - £1,000 to tide you over for that period.
Security Deposit
A Security Deposit (see Living in London) of £100 is retained by the Programme by deducting £50 from each of the first 2 living allowance payments. This deposit will be returned without interest after the internship less any required payments for breakages, damage to apartment furniture, etc., and less any charges required for professional cleaning of the apartment.
Local Costs
Interns are responsible for their own telephone bills, food, entertainment and all personal items. You will have to pay for your own daily travel to work, all visits to the Mountbatten Office and any Certificate events in London. The Programme, however, will cover any mandated Certificate travel costs to and from places outside London, including Oxford and Cambridge.
