Mountbatten Institute - London Programme
THE INTERNSHIP

At the heart of the Programme is a year's work assignment in or near London with a British-based sponsor company.  Sponsors provide our interns with a range of practical training opportunities.

Sponsors vary from large multinational organizations to small businesses and reflect different fields including financial services, accountancy, HR, IT, communications services, marketing, and law.  Depending on your interests, skills, demeanor, and some luck of the draw, your assignment may range from an administrative to a project-based or perhaps a research-based or analytical slot, most of which are in the upper range of corporate entry level positions.

Your performance at your company will be evaluated, in writing, by your supervisor twice throughout the year as you gain in skills, knowledge, and confidence.

Each internship is different but the focus is always upon practical training and personal development.  You will prepare and then focus on an individualized Learning Contract, setting out the goals you wish to attain during the year; these become the standards against which you measure yourself throughout your internship year.  The vehicle for this measurement is a Personal Development Journal in which you document and reflect on your training experience and your observations of life in Britain.  During the year, you are asked to examine your professional and personal development in quarterly written reviews, submitted to the Programme.

Interns in London

British Cultural Context - The Programme includes a series of seminars, taught by both practitioners and academics, which help map out and interpret some aspects of British business.  The seminars also provide a context and a stimulus to enable you to enjoy more fully the cultural riches of London.  Through them you will explore aspects of British History, Politics, Current Affairs, Business and some aspects of British traditional and popular culture.  Of course the real exploration begins outside the classroom, in the newspapers, on the street, and in the many museums, theatres, concert halls, music clubs and restaurants that London has to offer.

Mountbatten is committed to helping each intern make the most of the year and to this end offers professional guidance and advice for those who seek it.  Towards the end of your year, the Programme offers a series of career counseling seminars to help prepare the intern for the job market back in their home country.
