Mountbatten Institute - London Programme
HOW TO APPLY
APPLICATION FORM:
Complete the online application carefully and accurately. Print the complete form and sign the Intern's Pledge on the last page.
PERSONAL STATEMENT:
This statement is shown to prospective sponsors. It tells us about you and your reasons for undertaking an internship in London. Sponsors read this very carefully. This should not be a cover letter. Tell us what you expect to gain from The Programme and the Academic Program and what you think you have to offer a sponsor company in London. Be straightforward, candid and honest - and pay attention to grammar and spelling. It must fit onto one typewritten page. We strongly advise you to have it proofread. Upload this in the application.
RESUME:
Your resume (called a CV in the UK) is a very important part of the application procedure and is sent to sponsoring companies. It should reflect you at your best and contain accurate information about your work experience and skills. Upload this in the application.
PHOTOGRAPH:
The businesses and organizations, which sponsor interns under our program, want young people who are well groomed, professionally dressed (in a business suit) and personable. A poor photograph can be an instant turn-off. Please smile. Most companies accept interns on our recommendation without a personal interview, and it causes problems when your appearance on a photograph does not match our assessment of you. It is well worth a bit of extra effort to ensure that the photographs you send are well produced and look professional. This should be a passport photograph i.e. head and shoulders only, approx 1.5 x 2 inches - the size is important. Please provide 1.
REFERENCES:
Print off three copies of the Reference Form, sign the confidentiality waiver at the top of the first page and send them to your referees. References should be returned directly to your Mountbatten admissions office by the referee. It is fine if they arrive before your application. We require references from at least your two most recent employers, and one from a professor or advisor at your college / university. Choose someone who knows you and your work well. References prefaced by, "I have limited knowledge of the candidate" are of little use. References prepared by family or family friends will not be accepted. Click here for the reference form.
