Message from the Director General
The Mountbatten Institute is a unique organization dedicated to the professional development of young graduates who are focusing on careers in international business. It is named after the late Lord Mountbatten of Burma, a distinguished member of Britain’s royal family. While Lord Mountbatten’s military and political career has been well documented by historians, what is less well known is his devotion, later in life, to promoting intercultural education and international awareness among young adults.
At the Mountbatten Institute we continue this legacy by providing opportunities for young women and young men to build cultural and professional bridges as they develop their careers. We accomplish this by providing international work placement combined with cross-cultural training and education.
We recruit recent graduates to join our programmes in London and New York and we then match them with sponsor companies selected because of their commitment to developing young talent. Throughout the training year, while the graduate works full time, we provide on-going support, including accommodation and pastoral oversight, along with academic study designed to provide perspective and professional insights. Our sponsors represent major multinational corporations as well as small businesses.
We currently offer two academic options:
- A paid internship in London leading to the Masters of Business Administration in International Business Practice, offered by St Mary's University College, Twickenham, London. This unique opportunity presupposes an undergraduate degree in business, commerce, management or finance. The Mountbatten year of practical training in a sponsor company is augmented with weekend seminar classes and on-line tuition. The year in London carries 95 graduate credits from St Mary's (Part I of the MBA) and is followed by a semester (4 months) of full-time study, offering a further 85 credits (Part II of the MBA). This segment is delivered in Asia at our Graduate Study Center in Bangkok, Thailand. The degree focuses on international business practice, exploring European and Asian approaches to business, management and markets.
- A paid internship in London or New York leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in International Business Practice, validated by St Mary's University College, London, and equivalent to one third of a UK postgraduate qualification under the UK Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS). Courses are taught through weekend and evening seminars and tutorials and on-line tuition.
The London programme is open to American and other non-EU graduates and to Indian candidates who are selected for leadership programmes at UBS and Deutsche Bank. New York programme is open to graduates of any country, although it must be stressed that bi-lingual fluency in English is an absolute requirement. Courses are taught through weekend and evening seminars and tutorials and on-line tuition.
The Institute is at the cutting edge of a new movement in graduate training and study, dedicated to the preparation of the future global manager. Our mission is to educate and train through experience and, in the process, to help individuals grow and flourish in an international environment. I invite you to review our programmes and to contact us if you are interested in developing your international credentials.
